The Gifts You’ll Be Most Grateful For

Sigourney Cantelo

This time of year can take its toll on your wellbeing. There’s a downhill tumble from November when the pace at work picks up as you try to finish everything. Then there are Christmas parties, school concerts, barbecues; there’s shopping to do, fridges to stock…it never ends! You’re eating canapés for dinner, averaging a few hours sleep and you STILL haven’t managed to get the decorations down from the attic. By Christmas Eve, I’m usually ready to go into the fetal position with my thumb in my mouth.

Unfortunately, there’s not much we can do about the craziness. It’s going to do its thing whether we join in or not, but what we can do is think about the aftermath. How are we going to recover, reboot and take on the New Year? Now is the time to put your body and mind first. This Christmas, ask your family to bypass the gifts that will collect dust and give you something to nurture the soul. Or even better – spoil yourself!

Here are a few of the gifts I’ll be putting on my wishlist this year.

Healthy Meals

Even though I love to cook, for busy people (and who isn’t, really?) these services are one of the best investments you can make. Not having to plan and prepare meals can free up so much time and can give you the headspace to focus on whatever it is that needs your attention. Dinner Ladies are amazing, but my new favourite is Soulara – their plant-based meals are super fresh and delicious. There’s minimal processing and they’re packed with nutrient-dense superfoods like reishi mushrooms, turmeric, spirulina and hemp seeds.

Meditation Course

By far the most life-changing thing I’ve ever done was to learn to meditate. Far beyond just stress release and helping me sleep, it’s also boosted my creativity and health. When I meditate I am focused at work, I get sick less and I’m more patient with my children. I can’t think of a better gift to give someone! My favourite school, The Broad Place has just launched the incredible Enhance program – an online course that helps boost creativity, consciousness and clarity with practical tools and exercises.

Crown Spa Journeys

Crown Spa

An hour or two at Crown Spa is a true escape from life. One of the most incredible treatments I’ve experienced is the Sleep Support Therapy Journey. After a guided meditation, your therapist starts the most bliss-inducing massage (Blissful Marma) which moves prana (energy) around the body followed by a facial treatment and the application of nasal oil, which is an Ayurvedic technique to induce sleep. There’s a beautiful Subtle Energies kit that helps you continue the fantastic work at home. I swear by these products – whenever I’m jetlagged or suffering from insomnia, I’ll use one of the sleep patches and apply some of the nasal oil.

The Workout Box

There are so many options to work out at home now, but even the best fitness intentions can be hindered if you don’t have all the gear. Enter Aktivaaland their gorgeous boxes of curated accessories for the fit-to-be. I love the Challenge Box – it contains a yoga mat and Swiss Ball, dumbbells, resistance bands, a skipping rope, a water bottle and fitness towel. The perfect inspitation to start your new year workout regime.

Preening Packages

Crown Spa

When you look good, you feel good – it’s a natural progression. What could be more indulgent than spending the afternoon at Crown Spa being buffed and polished so you can step outside looking even more fabulous than when you went in? The Transformation Package at Crown Spa includes a cinnamon and walnut body buff, a Subtle Energies Mukha Chikitsa facial along with a wash and blow wave to complete your transformation. The Renewal Package combines a half an hour massage with a La Prairie facial and a file and polish for head to toe flawlessness.
